President Harry Truman had only been president for twelve days when he had to make the decision on whether or not dropping the bomb on the Japanese. Secretary of War, Henry L. Stimson, was the person who wrote the note and gave it to President Truman on April 24, 1945. They met the next day and Stimson was prepared to present convincing information of what would happen if President Truman were to decide to drop the bomb. Truman said that he “regarded the bomb as a military weapon and never had any doubt that it should be used.” The first atomic bomb was dropped from a B-29 called the Enola Gay on the morning of August 6, 1945, onto the city of Hiroshima. The bomb was named "Little Boy," and it exploded 1,900 feet above the courtyard of Shima Hospital, it was so powerful that it was equal to 12,500 tons of TNT. The blast obliterated most of the central city, killing 80,000 in a single moment. By the end of the year, 60,000 more victims would die from radiation poisoning, and thousands more would die in the years to come, from cancer and other long-term effects of the radiation. It......
