A Minimum of Two by Tim Winton clearly demonstrates that bearing weights from past actions and memories and carrying all of them into life can make the future a bleak place. Although there may be some memories which help the characters live their lives or establish friendships, too often the bad memories are remembered and this severely hurts them emotionally.
In No Memory Comes, the boy illustrates that dragging past memories into the present can ultimately ruin ones life. The past represents happy times for the boy. Him and his parents at the beach together, in harmony with the wind and the sea. In fact the beach becomes a secure place for the boy where everything is fine. His childhood past has also established a lifetime friendship; the boy and his friend meet during swimming classes and always spend a lot of time together. When high school begins, one day after school, they even make a vow to look after each other when the world ends.
