The Corps of Discovery might have been killed by their dangerous journey had it not been for the aid of the Native Americans. Through their traveling they met many tribes who helped them greatly in accomplishing their mission, to get to the Pacific Ocean. Lewis and Clarks encounter with the Native Americans helped them learn of their customs, ways of life, and their relations with others. They explored many parts of Oregon. The two areas that are most different are the Lower Columbia region and the Great Basin region. Though they are all Native to Oregon they have very different customs.
The Native Americans of the Lower Columbia region had many customs. They liked to gamble a lot and they were very friendly. Their clothing was made from the fibers from cedar bark. Since they were constantly wet they couldnt wear buckskin because it would shrink and smell very badly. They also didnt wear anything on the bottom half of their bodies because they were constantly wading in and out of water. They traveled by raft, canoes, and foot.
