Niccolo Machiavelli
Niccolo Machiavelli, the first great political philosopher of the Renaissance, was born at a time when the country of Italy was in a political upheaval.
Niccolo Machiavelli was born in Florence, Italy, in 1469, the same year in which Lorenzo the Magnificent de Medici (grandfather of the Lorenzo to whom The Prince is dedicated) came to power. Machivelli served as chancellor of Florence between 1498 and 1512. He was exiled between 1513 and 1527. During that period of exile, he wrote The Prince and The Discourses (written between 1515 and 1520). (Dalton, Dennis, Power over People, Classical and Modern Political Theory) In 1500, Niccolo married Marietta di Lodovico Corsini, with whom he had six children.
Machiavelli lived an ordinary childhood. He study business mathematics, and later worked for seven years in Rome for a Florentine banker. In 1494 he witness the expulsion of the Medici family and the only political experience during his youth was watching the rise of Girolam......
