Almost every nation has minority groups, religious plurality, and ideological divisions, but not all plunge into civil war. Historians have long searched for what variables trigger civil wars. In the modern world most civil wars occur in nations that are poor, totalitarian, and regionally divided. However, the United States was one of the wealthiest and most democratic countries in the world at the time of its bloody civil war. The breakout of the war was when the south seceded from the union, but what led the Southern states to secede from the union?
On the eve of the Civil War, the United States was a nation composed of three diffrent regions: the fast-growing industrial North, the rural Midwest with no slavery; and the South, with an export economy built on slave plantations that grew cotton, as well as tobacco and sugar. The country was growing rapidly but because of these diffrences these regions came to fear each other. A mississippi politician, Albert Gallatin Brown states in his speech that the north is accumulating power, and it means to use that power to emancipate you......
