Technology today is like a Pandoras Box, with both good and bad coming from the newest technological innovations. Some technology can help mankind, cure disease, or feed the hungry. But there is also always a darker side. That same technology that can feed the starving can also be turned into a weapon of mass destruction, or cause hunger and disease. New technology should be approached with caution, to weigh and contract the good and bad to see if the dark side of its application will overshadow the good. Government regulations, to protect the people and the environment, should watch over new technology and its applications. Nanotechnology is a new technology that is coming to the forefront. It has wondrous possibilities, but can also be disastrous to the planet and its people if not developed carefully. It is morally wrong that the US Government has paid billions of dollars for nanotechnology development and research without making any laws to protect people from those developments.
