The relationship between spirituality and religion has a direct correlation to the relationship of Christianity and social work. Both are related and have similar aspects and goals, yet the underlying foundations are not exactly the same. These different foundations and a few other specifications cause tension between the groups.
Spirituality is the human drive for purpose. It is also philosophical, assists human nature situations, and is a personal happening. Religion is an institutionally molded system of beliefs and values. Furthermore, it consists of the arrangement of activities and people, is sociological and theological, and is a social happening.
Just as spirituality and religion, social work and Christianity have similar goals and foundation as well yet they are not identical. The mission, purpose, and perspective of social work come from the core foundation the profession holds. The foundation consists of six core values which the profession is constantly striving towards.
