Lord of the Flies by William Golding Critical Essay Lord of the Flies by William Golding is a novel which deals with conflict as its central concern. My aim is to convey how Golding reveals and develops the novel, and to show how he puts across his message about the struggle between civilization and savagery. In the novel, a group of boys face this struggle when they crash-land on a paradise island during the war. Simple, everyday details cause conflict and Golding brings the story to its inevitable end. William Golding brings the boys to a paradise island, a bounteous, fruitful place. They’re brought here after being involved in a war. The very first realization they make is the fact that they’re alone, with no adults. This worries Jack and Piggy but Ralph feels he is free. First of all, he establishes civility, rules, with the conch and a meeting. He tries to create a society, and things are bright and hopeful. Everybody has to agree for it work. This is where Golding begins the conflict between civilization and savagery, when he introduces Ralph and Jack, the “big uns”.......
