The Jungle
Upton Sinclairs political views are that of the American Dream. He shows this through Jurgis actions and thoughts. Much of the characters in The Jungle represent the immigrant working class. The books views on the struggling of the immigrant working class allowed us to see how times were back then. With Jurgis and the family always searching for jobs and barely having enough money to eat represented the poor working class as a whole. I believe Sinclair showed political power through Phil Connor. During this time political power was everything. Through Phil Connors character we were able to see how easily they had control of the poor. One of the main examples Sinclair used was when Phil Connor stopped the family from getting jobs in Packing town. Upton Sinclairs idea of socialism is portrayed in The Jungle. I found it very fascinating that the main character, Jurgis, and his family were from Lithuania. These were country people who came to America to work and earn a living.
