A week and a half after the U.S. Supreme Court ruled the federal government can block doctors from prescribing marijuana for medical use, Dr. Dale Schafer and his wife Dr. Marion Fry were both arrested by agents from the Drug Enforcement Administration and the Western El Dorado County Narcotics Enforcement Task Force. Fry and Schafer, both self-proclaimed marijuana users that found relief with marijuana after undergoing a mastectomy and chemotherapy for cancer, were charged with two felonies: one count of conspiracy to distribute at least 100 marijuana plants, and one count of manufacturing at least 100 marijuana plants. If convicted, Fry and Schafer could be sentenced to five to forty years in prison and be charged with a fine of up to $2 million. These two well respected and prestigious doctors have saved hundreds of lives and are labeled and humiliated as felons.
