As one reads Art Spiegelmans Maus books, the first thing that draws vigorous attention is the graphic novels complexity of style. The author uses multifaceted artistic strategies, those being: his representation of characters through animals rather than humans; his repetition of various symbols in the book that enlighten more than what is seen; and his simultaneous ways of representing two point of views whose interconnections are the blueprint of what the novel is trying to get across. Spiegelman uses such strategies to tell the story of his fathers (Vladeks) holocaust experience one which shaped the man Vladek became, the father he was, as witnessed by Art himself, and the impact it has on Art as the son of such a character today.
The illustrations associated with the telling of this story are the main points of representation in which make the unrepresentable presentable.
