Teleological Argument Free Essay, Term Paper and Book Report
Numerous philosophers have argued that an effective argument must be based on experience. In philosophical terms, they must be Aposteriori. Therefore, over the years philosophers and theologists have developed arguments for the existence of God based on experience which are known as cosmological arguments. A subdivision of the cosmological argument, know as the Teleological argument was put forward by William Paley. Like the cosmological argument, this theory is based on experience. The word teleological is derived from the Greek word telos meaning goal, purpose, or end. This argument is also known as the argument to design as it is mainly concerned with the order and design of the world.
Paley was interested in the marks of design, order, pattern and consistency displayed in all things in the universe. He asks how there can be complicated structures such as the brain or planetary system with such specific functions without someone designing them. He suggested that it would be more plausible to infer that the universe is the way it is because it had a divine creator, ......
