Martin Luther King was born on the 15 of January 1929 in Atlanta, Georgia to Martin Luther King Sr and Alberta Williams King. However, Martin Jr birth records say that his first name is Michael, perhaps due to some confusion of the family doctor over his fathers name, although he (King Jr) was called Mike throughout his childhood.
He graduated from Morehouse College with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Sociology; his mentor during this time was the later President Benjamin Mays.
Later on, in 1951, King graduated from Crozer Theological Seminary in Chester, Pennsylvania with a Bachelor of Divinty, a high achievement for King, making him a well read young man.
In 1955 he received a Ph.D of Systematice Theology from the Boston University, and on June 18th 1953 he married Coretta Scott with his father performing the ceremony in Marion, Alabama.
