In the book, The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night Time by Mark Haddon, the conflicts of family are reminded by the adventures and struggles of the narrator, Christopher. ChristopherÂ’s autism may seem like a challenge to understand, but readers are lucky to find that his need to explain every detail is a benefit to understanding his world. Understanding how he functions in his world is not the issue, in this case itÂ’s why. As readers, it is difficult to comprehend why he chose the routes he took, or how extreme his actions were. And while that confuses us, what baffles us even more, is how it always turns out all right for him. Though Christopher may express and function differently from the majority, in the end all humans achieve similar objectives. The universal need of family, affection and belonging is something all humans require to maintain a healthy understanding of oneself.
