The Handmaids Tale Free Essay, Term Paper and Book Report

The Handmaid’s Tale By considering the literary and linguistic features, examine the representation of male characters, with close reference to a comparison of Nick with the Commander. The following essay will concentrate on the portrayal of the three main characters from the novel, The Handmaid’s Tale by Margaret Atwood. The author has strong feminist views which can be identified in the themes of most of her work; Atwood’s work often centres on women and explores their roles in society. In her more recent work Atwood’s presentation of the male character has developed even though she admits to having problems when portraying men. Atwood’s work has come under criticism for her presentation of the male character and some critics claim that Atwood presents the idea that men equal violence. In The Handmaid’s Tale this theory is not entirely true; the women in the story are capable of violence. On numerous occasions different female characters commit horrendous acts of cruelty however the world where they commit these acts is ruled by men. In a short conclusion at the end ......
