Philosophy of Education Free Essay, Term Paper and Book Report

Philosophy of Education Englishman John Lubbock said, “The important thing is not so much that every child should be taught, as that every child should be given the wish to learn.” I believe that a teacher should act as a guide to fostering knowledge in his/her students to give that wish to learn, expecting my students to become self-learners. An effective teacher should use a variety of teaching methods in an enthusiastic manner, promote social skills, and model good morals, ethics, and behavior, all in order to promote constant learning. As a result, students should be able to effectively learn in their own styles, communicate well with others, be respectful and responsible, and be able to extend these traits as good citizens into society for the rest of their lives. Lev Vygotsky and John Dewey have greatly influenced my thoughts about education and learning. I agree with Vygotsky in that learning is a lifelong process that depends on social interaction for cognitive development.
