Astrology in Early Modern European History Free Essay, Term Paper and Book Report
The ideology behind astrology throughout the sixteenth and seventeenth centuries in Europe was that the stars and planets exerted an influence on the earth and everything it housed: The relative position of the stars especially at a particularly susceptible moment like birth must therefore affect a persons fortunes, or more simply, the science of the stars.
There were many different types of astrology practiced, including: horary, horoscopic, judicial and natural astrology. Horary astrologers dealt with questions which were specific. The astrologer would use a chart dealing with the time your question is asked and then a map of the sky is created to formulate a specific answer.
Horoscopic astrology involved the picking of favourable times for doing things, the answer¬ing of questions, the forecasting of mundane events, and the analysis of individual destiny, all based on a particular instrument, the theme, genesis, or birthchart of the person seeking their horoscope.
