As George walked back toward the bunk house, he couldnt get Lennie off oh his mind. He didnt think it was right that he just left him there. He decided that it was only right to give him a proper -or fairly decent- burial. He went back with Slim and Candy close behind. They stretched out Lennies body along the brush. They covered him with a blanket and leaves. George knew this wasnt proper but it was the best he could do.
When they returned to the bunkhouse, all the men were sitting at the table playing cards. Curley called out to them, Care to join? We are just starin a new game. Slim went over but George and Candy explained that they didnt feel up to it. They both went and sat in a corner and started to talk. Eventually, the ranch came up.
Candy started, So, ya still up for buyin that ranch?
I dont know, George replied, Its not gonna be the same without Lennie.
Well of course it wont. It aint never gonna be the same. He was a big part of your life.
Candy hoped for the ranch because that was the only thing he had to look forward to......
