Analyst of the Setting for the Free Essay, Term Paper and Book Report

The setting of this play is divided between two realms, both of which affect all its intangible features. The main setting is that of the inside of the Wingfield home. It is a small, lower-middle class apartment with a view of the alley outside the housing complex in St. Louis. The side setting, seen as the escape from reality, is the fire escape leading out the window of the apartment. The setting relates to the mood because of the various objects located throughout the apartment. The mood is of despair due to the inescapable reality of their everyday lives. This can be seen through the many apparent objects that represent each of the character’s struggles. The cramped living conditions also leads to problems because Amanda and her children are constantly in each other’s faces, which leads to Amanda having to always comment on something. The setting reflects the theme because the surroundings are strong signs of their unwillingness to accept and take responsibility for their lives and the plaguing feeling of being stuck in this kind of life forever, especially for ......
