However, it is now shown that one will be exposed to this many advertisements, before breakfast!1 About 29% of theses advertisements are targeted towards Core Category foods (food, soft-drinks, and Chain Restaurants).2 Although this may not sound like very much it averages out to nearly 900 food advertisements just before you sit down for your cup of joe. In the article, Hunger as an Ideology Susan Bordo discusses how these advertisements influence our every day behaviors. From mentally to physically advertisements have a major impact on our lives. Bordos theories can be seen in action all across the country.
In many, if not all, advertisements we see women with portions nearly a third of the size of men and almost always being prepared by the women. For a women to even think about eating more or an equivalent sized portion as that of a man she must have a designated reason. Women are permitted to lust for food itself only when they are pregnant
