Three Myths About The Human Eye An eye is the organ of vision that detects light. The one sense that nobody would ever want to be without is vision. I feel that it is the most important of all the senses. There are many misconceptions about eye sight and vision. The way the eye works is quite simple. It allows light to enter it and that projects onto a panel of cells called the retina. The retina is located at the rear of the eye; this is where the light detected is converted into electrical signals. They then travel through the optic nerve up into the human brain. The human eye is spherical and filled with vitreous humour, which is a transparent gel-like substance. Other important parts of the eye include eyelids, eyelashes, and eyebrows. The eyelid will wipe the eye and prevent dehydration by releasing tear fluid onto the eye. Eyelashes prevent small particles from making entrance to the eye.
