INTRODUCTION My goal is to talk about what diabetes is and how it affects nationally. If not aware it is a major killer. I chose to talk about this subject because it hits home for me my daddy has it. Even though he is in his forties it even affects younger people even children. I discuss the complications the treatment that are out there to keep people aware with or without the disease. LITERATURE REVIEW What is Diabetes? Diabetes mellitus is a group of disease marked by high levels of blood glucose from defects in insulin production, insulin action, or both. There are two types of diabetes. Type1 and type2; Type1 was previously called insulin-dependent diabetes mellitus (IDDM) or juvenile-onset diabetes. It develops when the bodys immune system destroys pancreatic beta cells the only body part that make the hormone insulin that regulates blood glucose. Type2 was previously called non-insulin dependent diabetes mellitus (NIDDM) or adult-onset diabetes. Type 2 diabetes accounts for about 90 percent ......
