GEOGRAPHICAL INFORMATION ON DUBAI Dubai is the second-largest of the seven emirates which make up the United Arab Emirates. (Map 1) The United Arab Emirates is situated in the Eastern of the Arab World. The whole region is called Middle East. The UAE overlooks the gulf of Oman to the East and the Arabian Gulf to the North. The Arabian Gulf and Gulf of Oman are linked by the Strait of Hormuz. The UAE has an important position for the world of trade. (Map2) The UAE shares a boarder with Qatar and Saudi Arabia in the west and in the east with the Sultanate of Oman. Dubai is located on the southern shore of the Arabian Gulf. It has an area of some 3,900 square kilometres. Outside the city itself, the emirate is sparsely inhabited and dominated by desert landscape. Dubais neighbouring emirate is to the east Sharjah and to the west Abu Dhabi.
