They can be a professional, occasional, intensive, or even a chronic armed robber. This ties in with one of the core elements of the differential association theory which states that; when criminal behavior is learned, the learning includes, techniques of committing the crime, and the specific direction of motives, drives and rationalizations and attitudes. The chronic armed robber is usually very un-organized and almost always rushes themselves through the robbery. They spend the money they make on drugs and alcohol, going to clubs, or buying automobiles. They always carry a loaded firearm, and use it about 20% of the time. The professional armed robber looks at armed robbery as a career, generally lasting from 11 to 12 years. They average from 20 to 50 armed robberies, and plan them very well with the help of other people. They are also well armed, sometimes take hostages but only use their weapons 10% of the time.
