Ward English Mr. Scott 27 April 2005 The Loch Ness Monster There are many myths and legends that we are all told about as we grow up be family, teachers and we even hear of some of these in the media. Some are easy to believe and we are all fascinated by the tales that are told about them. One of the famous ones is that of the Loch Ness monster of “Nessie” as some would call the beast. Is the Loch Ness monster real or fake? This is a question that many people ask themselves. “Nessie” is an alleged creature living in Loch Ness, a long, deep lake near Iverness, Scotland. Many sightings of the monster have been recorded going back at least as far as St. Columba, the Irish monk who converted most of Scotland to Christianity in the 6th century (Carroll 467). The modern legend of Nessie begins in 1934 with Dr. Robert Kenneth Wilson, a London physician who allegedly photographed a beast with a long neck coming out of murky waters.
