Catcher in the Rye Free Essay, Term Paper and Book Report

Throughout the 1990’s the novel Catcher in the Rye was a challenged book. It was banned by many organizations many times. J.D Salinger was most known for his “disturbed” adolescent novels. In the novel Catcher in the Rye the protagonist, Holden Caulfield, exhibited many adolescent behaviors. Holden, like many other teenagers, often rebel against authority. Exhibitionism is one showing off to another or calling attention to ones self. Exhibitionism is most commonly exhibited during the teenage period. Holden depicts both of these common teenage behaviors. Most teenagers revolt against the authoritative figures because they feel as though they need to boast as they do often in school. In Catcher in the Rye Holden has a necessity to show exhibitionism and to revolt against authorities, as though the book been created to display those behaviors. Holden also has the need to lie, “I'm the most terrific liar you ever saw in your life. It's awful. If I'm on my way to the store to buy a magazine, even, and somebody asks me where I'm going, I'm liable to say I'm going to the opera. I......
