Comparison of Plato and Aristotle Throughout time changes in epistemology have varied significantly. An Important turning point in epistemology was when Plato’s view of the world was revised by Aristotle. Plato was a student of Socrates and was one of the greatest philosophers who ever lived. Once Plato’s student, Aristotle came up with his own system for interpreting reality that differs from his mentor. The differing opinions between the two can be seen in sense observation, eternal ideas, and forms. Plato’s idea of interpretation through senses is similar to Parmenides. For Parmenides senses deceived us and, hence, our perception of the world does not reflect the world as it really is. Instead, the real world is something above our apprehension and can only be apprehended through logic (Parmenides and Zeno, 1999). In Plato’s way of thinking there was a world of eternal forms that is perfect. In his argument about the allegory of the cave, he implies that the world we perceive is a world of shadows, hinting at the truth, eternal form we cannot see. This example shows ......
