Psychological Analysis of the movie Equus Free Essay, Term Paper and Book Report

The psychology world has long been a fascination in the film industry. Many movies have been created that explore the different psychological situations that may occur in our society. It can be interesting to note the different ways that movies have explored the psychological world using characters in movies. The purpose of this paper is to analyze the movie, Equus, by first summarizing the film itself and then attempting to analyze the film using a Freudian perspective. In the movie, a seventeen year old young man names Alan Strang has a history of psychological issues, which result in him blinding six horses by stabbing them in the eyes. As a result of this, his mother takes him to a psychologist by the name of Dr. Dysart for treatment. During their initial meetings, Alan would not open up to the doctor but instead would sing commercial jingles making him appear to be a lost cause for the doctor. Because Alan’s treatment was not progressing, the doctor gave Alan a portable recording device in order for Alan to be able to talk about his past experiences. This was done so ......
