African Art is utilitarian containing pieces that display communication, innovation, and the aesthetics of Africa. However, African Art stretches over a wide range of Africa and has a wide range of symbolic meaning. For that reason, I have decided to narrow my search to Western Africa where I will compare and contrast two ancestral masks, the Bundu helmet (Gola, Sande Association) from Sierra Leone and the Banda mask (Nalu or Baga people of Guinea) from Guinea.
