Emily Grieson: Refusal to Change Free Essay, Term Paper and Book Report

President John F. Kennedy once said that change is the law of life, and those who look only to the past are certain to miss the future. Emily Grieson was that kind of a woman, one that missed the future. For example, when the town was slated to get new post office boxes, Emily did not let them place a new mailbox on her property. When Emily’s father died, she denied his death to everyone in town for three days, until some of the town’s people came into her house and claimed the body. Also, Emily had an affair with a man named Homer Baron. One night while in a pub she overheard him say that he was not the marrying kind. She made that night his last, by poisoning him with arsenic. Emily Grieson’s refusal to accept change led her to a sorrowful and lonely life. The death of Emily’s dad was a tough loss for Emily. At first Emily did not accept her father’s death. According to the book, ladies from the town came to Emily’s house to offer their sincerest expressions of sympathy, but Emily refused to accept that her father had passed away.
