Chebyshev's life Free Essay, Term Paper and Book Report
Pafnuty Lvovich Chebyshev was born on May 4, 1821 in a village named Okatovo, Russia. His parents were Lev Pavlovich and Agrafena Ivanova they had nine children; some of them pursued their fathers military tradition, but Pafnuty was not able to do so because one of his legs was longer then the other. His early education consisted of tutoring by his mom and cousin Avdotia Kvintillianova Soukhareva, his mom taught him the basics of reading and writing. On the other hand, his cousin taught him French and arithmetic.
In 1832, Pafnuty and his family moved to Moscow, Russia, where he continued to be home schooled, but now P N Pogorelski tutored him in mathematics. This tutor was believed to be the best elementary math tutor in Moscow and was the author of many popular elementary mathematic books in Russia. After being home schooled and tutored he then went to Moscow University in 1837. While Pafuty was at Moscow University, Nikolai Dmetrievich Brashman, who had been professor of applied math at the university for about two years, mostly influenced him.
