Much Ado About Nothing Free Essay, Term Paper and Book Report

“Much Ado about Everything, and None about Noting” Shakespeare’s “Much ado about Nothing” combines two different stories in one plot. This modern romantic comedy pokes fun at social norms in the 1600’s, and the conflicts of men and women. The themes of gossip and deception are easily centralized around the title’s many meanings. By writing in prose, Shakespeare develops colorful imagery and thoughtful language throughout the play. The play takes place in Messina, a coastal city on the island of Sicily. The war has just ended, and most of the story takes place at the home of Leonato. In the first act, all the characters are concerned with civilian obligations to the military, and paying careful attention to social norms as to be polite. These ‘masks’ fade as the story progresses and the characters show their true intentions. The ending of one war has only symbolically led to another as the two noblemen; Claudio and Benedick enter Messina. The men seem to fear being outsmarted by women, Beatrice and Benedick being a prime example. Soon after Beatrice ......
