Comparison and Contrast of Free Essay, Term Paper and Book Report

"The Destructors," by Graham Greene, and "The Rocking-Horse Winner," by D. H. Lawrence, have many differences and similarities worth examining. Between these two short stories, the differences include the purpose of each story, plot, point of view, setting, and the fact that “The Destructors” is realistic, and “The Rocking-Horse Winner” is not; the similarities include the ambitious personalities of the protagonists and the theme of destruction throughout both stories. One factor shared between these two stories is each protagonist's ambitious personality. In "The Destructors," the newly designated leader of the gang, "T." (Trevor), devises a plan to completely demolish "Old Misery’s” house while the man is away for two days. When they begin the destruction of the house, "T." has the whole demolition organized and planned out; and he is very enthusiastic about it. When Trevor discovers that "Old Misery" is coming home sooner than expected, he becomes quite upset and refuses to leave the job unfinished.
