Throughout history, women have struggled to gain equality in the eyes of the law and the public as a whole. For centuries, people believed that women were inferior to men, and many still share this view in the present day. Mary Wollstonecraft wrote A Vindication of the Rights of Women in 1792, in the midst of the Enlightenment. In her essay, Wollstonecraft offered a view of society from a female perspective, and exposed the exploitation of women. She discussed the need for political and social change regarding the rights of women, a topic that has been debated continuously over time.
