Seduction and violence in children's literature Free Essay, Term Paper and Book Report

Fairy tales have been written and passed down through the centuries. These now amusing stories for children, used to be written as teachings for the youth of the past. They discussed arising social issues as well as taught the readers lessons on life. Two of these lessons were on violence and seduction, specifically towards young women. These two topics are strong and powerful ones. Two fairy tales in particular that convey strong messages of violence and seduction are Little Red Ridding Hood as well as Bluebeard. These two fairy tales both include young women who become seduced by older men and are then the victims of violence. Older men first seduce them, where they then experience violent crimes. These two factors, violence and seduction, are both related to one another in the sense that seduction often leads to violence. In Little Red Ridding Hood the violence is conveyed towards the main character Little Red Ridding Hood. In the fairly tale she is killed and eaten by a wolf. All this, however, is a representation of an older man killing and raping a younger girl. ......
