Before reading The Autobiography of Malcolm X I knew very little about his life and what he did for the civil rights movement. I always portrayed Malcolm X as the violent leader in segregation and learned very little about him in school. In the beginning of the autobiography Malcolm is a hustler who likes white women and conks his hair, a black who try and hides his true identity. Then he changes into a follower of the Nation of Islam, following Elijah Muhammad. After that he takes a pilgrimage to Mecca and that is where we see the Malcolm X that history doesnt truly focus enough about. This is why the quote that I picked really took me back because it showed what a turn around that Malcolm X went from.
