The Great Society Free Essay, Term Paper and Book Report

The Great Society succeeded in prompting far-reaching social changes. Critics believe that the Great Society resulted in creating an oversized bureaucracy, too many regulations, waste and fraud, and rising budget deficits. However, the Great Society brought about more optimistic social changes than negative ones. The Great Society formed optimistic revolutionary changes in the areas of which some include civil rights, war on poverty, education, and the environment. Civil rights was a significant issue in the Great Society. The Civil Rights Act of 1964 forbade job discrimination and the segregation of public accommodations. The Voting Rights Act of 1965 assured minority registration and voting. It suspended use of literacy or other voter-qualification tests that had sometimes served to keep African-Americans off voting lists. The Immigration Act of 1965 abolished the national-origin quotas in immigration law. By this, non-European immigrants were allowed into the United States. Also, the Civil Rights Act of 1968 banned housing discrimination and extended constitutional protections ......
