The Year The Dream Died
The year 1968, the year that reporter Jules Witcover says was the Year The Dream Died, was the turning point for the nations future and a time when many peoples hope for a better America died. This is shown through national politics such as LBJs decision to not run for a second term, the split of the Democratic party, and Nixons presidential election and through the Civil Rights movement as the belief of passive resistance turns to militant resistance, the assassinations of MLK and Robert Kennedy, and the development of new civil rights groups including the Black Panthers and the Black Muslims.
