Brave New World vs. Don Marquis Free Essay, Term Paper and Book Report

In Aldous Huxley’s Brave New World the character John the Savage agrees with Don Marquis idea that it is better to be happy for a little while than to live a long time and be bored the whole time. Marquis’ quote resembles in many ways the thoughts and actions of John. Huxley makes John different from others in the World State society to create tension that helps to build conflict in the novel while also contributing to Huxley’s message regarding individuality and happiness. John is brought to the World State by Bernard Marx to gain a new perspective on the different lifestyle there. The World State is a strict, conforming society while the Mexican Reservation, where John is from, is all about individuality and being content with life. Throughout the plot of the novel, John becomes disgusted and ill of the strict society to which he has come. John’s rebellion against society beings to grow along with conflict between amongst other characters in society. John beings to formulate a plan in order to help others in society stand up for what they believe in – be an individual......
