Krystal Miller A.P. Lit & Comp 11/15/06 3rd Block Pride & Prejudice Theme Both pride and prejudice are very strong characteristics. Whether they are faults or virtues however, is up to each individual person. In the novel Pride & Prejudice by Jane Austen these two characteristics are abundant within the characters. Such characters as Elizabeth Bennet, Mr. Collins, and Mr. Fitzwilliam Darcy are all blinded by pride. While characters like Caroline Bingley, Lady Catherine De Bourgh and again Elizabeth Bennet, and Mr. Darcy suffer from prejudice. We learn from these characters that both pride and prejudice can blind people and impair their otherwise good judgment. Pride, according to Webster’s Dictionary is defined as an unduly high opinion of oneself or arrogance. One can not think of a more perfect character who exhibits this characteristic than Caroline Bingley.
