What Is Love? The dictionary defines love as a profoundly tender, passionate affection for another person. However, there is much more entailed by the mentioning of the word love than just a mere definition. When two individuals claim they are “in love,” the people surrounding them typically assume that the couple feels an inner connection between them and experience an emotional attachment toward one another. In fact, love has many different meanings according to the context it is mentioned in. Conveniently, love seems easier to define, by outlining what it simply is not. Typically, love is contrasted with it’s polar opposite: hate. In the acknowledgement that hate is a feeling of disdain and dislike towards something or someone, one can determine that love would be the complete reversal of these emotional reactions. While love is usually associated with positive experiences, its existence can also facilitate strong negative feelings when a particular situation or relationship goes awry.
