The Scarlet Letter - Pearl: The Light of the World Free Essay, Term Paper and Book Report

Pearl: The Light of the world The Scarlet Letter was written by Nathaniel Hawthorne in Salem and Concord, Massachusetts in the late 1840's. The point of the story was to tell how Hester Prynne committed adultery on her husband who was living with Native Americans for two years. The story tells how Hester lives with the shame from the townspeople and the shame of the baby she has now from this sin. The father of the baby, who is known as Author Dimmesdale also suffers a giant guilt trip from the guilt of hidding that his is Hester's babys real father. Sadly both of them hide this and have to go through the same and torture of living this way. The biggest mistake that both of them share is not only committing adultery but also coming from this was a little baby named Pearl. Little Pearl is just a simple symbol in the story. She is just a little child in the whole story and when her father dies she is only seven. Pearl represents light and she brightens up the story when everyone is dark and gloomy.
