In America today, most of the people track their ancestors through immigration and are not born wealthy, but instead have to work for their money. A woman looking like stick-thin, six-foot tall model is what is beat into societys head as beautiful today. Ms. Carey represents what most women in America look like, which is healthy and normal. She is the perfect example because she is multiethnic, worked to become wealthy and obtains an all around normal beauty.
In order to understand how Mariah represents American society, one has to know where she came from. Mariah Carey was born in Long Island, New York on March 27, 1970 (Mariah Carey). Her father, an aeronautical engineer, is black and Venezuelan (Holden). Her mother, Patricia Carey, who is of Irish descent, is a vocal coach and opera singer who was a soloist with the New York City Opera in the late 60's and early 70's (Holden).
