Abraham Lincoln Free Essay, Term Paper and Book Report
Our 16th president, Abraham Lincoln, was born on February 12, 1809 in Hardin County, Kentucky. He was the son of Thomas and Nancy Hanks Lincoln. He also had an older sister and a younger brother who died when he was just a baby. In 1816, Lincoln and his family moved to Indiana because land ownership was secure there. His life in Indiana was not easy at all.
In 1830, Lincoln left Indiana and moved to Illinois. For a short period of Lincolns time in Illinois, he served in the Black Hawk War during, 1832. During that year Lincoln also ran for Illinois legislature, but had no success. Lincolns father was a Whig, so therefore Lincolns membership as a Whig came naturally. In 1836, Lincoln became a lawyer, and then moved to Springfield, Illinois in 1837.
Lincoln then married Mary Todd on November 4, 1842. They had four children. All of their children were boys. Abe never went to church, but Mary Todd Lincoln was a Presbyterian.
