Curfews Free Essay, Term Paper and Book Report
The United States is supposed to be the land of the free, a land where the Constitution rules and all people, young and old, have equal rights under the law. However, federal, state, and local governments are ignoring the freedom of the people, especially young people. One anti-freedom law that governments support are juvenile curfews. Curfews are blatantly unconstitutional. The First Amendment states that: Congress shall make no law abridging the right of the people peaceably to assemble.
Curfews have no affect on the crime rate. Teenagers that are out stealing cars, damaging property or stealing things laugh at curfews and do not care if there is one. The only one that will be punished are the teenagers that do not cause problems and just want to spend the night having fun with friends. Study also shows that most crimes by teens are committed during school hours when they should be in school and are unsupervised . Most crimes are created by people 18 and over.
Any drop in crime generally attributed to curfews are rather due to the fact that Americans are committing ......
