Affirmative action is an issue with many sides to the argument. Some say that affirmative action gives an unfair advantage to minority students. Using affirmative action at St. Cloud State University to level the playing field for minority applicants will help the campus to become more diversified which in turn will help to reduce racism.
According to a student government official who wished to remain anonymous, the application processes at many colleges including SCSU tend to be racist. Points are given for various academic categories and extra-curricular activities including: GPA, sports, standardized testing, and class rank. SCSU puts a lot of focus on standardized test scores. This puts people who speak English as a second language and people who had to attend below average public schools at a disadvantage. Their intelligence has nothing to do with it. It is mainly people of color who these disadvantages affect.
