Baseball was founded in the eighteenth century in the Northeast United States. It is believed by most, that baseball was derived from the English game of “Rounders,” however there is still dispute over who actually “invented” the game. The game of baseball came about in the 1800’s, and was heavily influenced by the game of rounders. Abner Doubleday was the man that was actually credited with inventing baseball; however there are very few facts to support this theory. The more likely inventor of baseball was Alexander Cartwright. He formed the first baseball club, and wrote many of the rules of the game.
The first baseball league was run by the National Association of Base Ball Players, and consisted of all amateur players who werenÂ’t paid. The league folded shortly thereafter, as the competition level increased, and the need to pay players became apparent.
