A.) In this essay I am going to investigate the First Crusade. Jerusalem has always been a sacred place. It is important for Christians as Jesus was born there and they believed he was the son of God. Secondly, it is an important place for Christians to come on pilgrimage. It is sacred to Jews because a Jewish temple was built there long ago, and today a part of it still remains. This part is named the Western Wall. Finally, it is also holy to Muslims for the Dome of the Rock mosque is based there right in the heart of Jerusalem and a lot of Muslims pray there.
The Turkish Seljuk Muslims had captured Jerusalem in 1071 from the Arabs, who were originally ruling it. The Turkish Muslims were called the Seljuk Soldiers and they would not allow anyone (whether Jewish or Christian) in and made it extremely difficult for pilgrims to visit. This annoyed the Jews and Christians greatly, although the Christians were the ones who took action against this rule made by the Seljuk Muslims.
