The Dead Sea and Desalination Free Essay, Term Paper and Book Report

The rejoin I choose for the project is the Dead Sea. It fascinates me to know that there is a huge body of water on earth that contains no living marine life other than a few different kinds of microbes. The Dead Seas main source of feed water is the Jordan River. The lake has no outlet other than water used for irrigation and evaporation from the hot desert sun. The dimensions of the lake are 47 miles long, has a maximum width of 10 miles and the deepest part of the sea is 1300 feet. The salt content is nearly six times that of the oceans. Because of the high density of solids in the sea, the human body can easily float on top with little or no effort at all. The history of the Dead Sea is quite extensive and always under debate. The Sea has been used by King David for refuge and Cleopatra to cure common ailments. Aristotle himself was the first to tell the world about the salty body of water.
