It was 7:00 a.m. on a Saturday. I woke up to the chime of my alarm clock. As I rolled over to turn it off, I peered out the square framed window, and watched as the sunlight crept across the neatly cut lawn. I stood up out of my bed, stretching my back, front wards and backwards, hearing a few crackles each time. I stripped off my pajamas and jumped in the shower.
While I dried off, I thought about where I was about to go. All the 6 a.m. runs, the aerobics classes, and the hours in the weight room I knew would suddenly pay off. I wanted to win, and at the time I had no idea that the true prize was not winning, but it was something far greater.
I could smell the scent of Folgers coffee, which meant my dad, had just woken up. I dressed in pieces, first my favorite Nike running shorts then my lucky Adidas tank top.
